They say, ‘Nothing goes right on the outside, when nothing is going right on the inside’ – in other words if we can sort out our minds, we can sort out our lives – and our world.
The Buddhist approach, presented in this tradition as the ‘graduated path to Enlightenment’ (Lam Rim in Tibetan), is based upon a sophisticated understanding of the mind, based on millennia of research by previous practitioners. Since our current cultural perspective is unclear about the nature of mind, and doubts that enlightenment is possible, this seems a natural place to start our exploration of the Buddhist path.
Join us as we examine the Buddhist presentation of mind, and its incredible potential, through a series of presentations, discussion and meditation. Check out how you currently view mind, and whether this tallies with your actual experience. Investigate how a different perspective may impact your everyday experience.
This course is the first module of the widely respected Discovering Buddhism programme. By engaging in this course, participants will gain an experiential taste of the Buddha’s teachings, some retreat experience, and the skills they need to make their lives most meaningful. Included are presentations of ideas, discussion, meditations and suggestions for further reading.
The first session will include an introduction to the whole Discovering Buddhism course, and allow plenty of time for questions and meditation. There is no donation necessary for this session, so come along and give it a try.
