Welcome to Jamyang Bath Buddhist Group, an FPMT study group with close links to Jamyang Buddhist Centre in London.. We follow the Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsongkhapa of Tibet as taught by our founder, Lama Thubten Yeshe and our spiritual director, Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche.
We are a friendly and enthusiastic community, aiming to deepen our understanding of Buddhism and cultivate inner peace and compassion, transforming our minds and hearts. Join us in our journey of study, meditation and discussion.
Members of Jamyang Bath meet Lama Zopa Rinpoche, London 2014
Our current programme includes:
- Public talks and weekend retreats with qualified and inspiring FPMT touring teachers
- Discovering Buddhism, a weekly course, offering a structured presentation of Tibetan Buddhist ideas
- Meditation classes for beginners and experienced meditators alike
- Shared ritual practices, such as pujas
- Special events and community gatherings
Our activities are coordinated and led by Buddhist practitioners who volunteer their skills, time and energy as an offering of service to their teachers and to anyone who might benefit from our programmes.
Students come from all walks of life, ages, and levels of aspiration on the Dharma path. Many are new to Buddhism, others have been studying and practising for years and have received the teachings and blessings of our spiritual director and other realised teachers.
Following Buddhist traditions worldwide, the teachings are offered free of charge, but in order to cover the costs of setting up the group and renting the facilities each week, we suggest a level of voluntary donation. Please don’t be discouraged from attending because of lack of funds. We appreciate that people give what they are able to. We do depend entirely on donations to continue our work, so thank you for your generosity.
Jamyang Bath Buddhist Group is a company limited by guarantee, and we aim to become a registered charity. Current members of the steering group are:
- Co-ordinator: Sandra Whilding
- Spiritual Programme Co-ordinator: Lynne Knight
- Treasurer: Judy Klinpikuln
- Publicity: Jude Harris
- Other members: Kay Cooper, Gordon McDougall, Martin Kerrigan, Andy Wistreich (advisor), and thanks to previous co-ordinator Anne Swindell
Jamyang Bath is an FPMT study group. FPMT study groups are groups which are using this status as a probationary period before a group becomes a legal entity and a full FPMT centre. FPMT study groups are not yet affiliated with the FPMT, and therefore do not have the same responsibilities as a centre, financially or administratively. FPMT study groups are required to work towards becoming an FPMT centre.
